To tutor a subject, you need at least a Grade A (or 7) at GCSE in that subject. For A-Level tutoring, you'll need an A at A-Level or be studying/have studied the subject at university level. We verify your qualifications during the application process to ensure quality for our students.
If you are qualified to tutor a subject at a higher level, you can automatically tutor it at all lower levels. For example, if you're studying Chemistry at university, you can tutor Chemistry at A-Level and GCSE. • GCSE Foundation & Higher • A-Level For GCSE, we distinguish between Foundation and Higher tiers - you'll specify which you're comfortable teaching during onboarding.
Yes, all tutors on StudyGuru must complete an Enhanced DBS check before teaching students. We'll guide you through the application process once you pass your assessment. We know university can be tough on the finances, so we're investing in you — we cover the cost upfront so there's no out-of-pocket expense. You simply pay it back gradually through a small deduction from each session's earnings. We believe in your potential and don't want finances to be a barrier to getting started.
We accept current university students or recent graduates from UK universities. This ensures our tutors have recent, relevant academic experience and can relate to students preparing for their exams.
We offer tutoring in Maths, English, Science and more! During your application, you'll select the subjects you're qualified to teach. You can always add more subjects later once you're verified in your primary subjects.
The assessment is a short 20-minute video call with one of our team. You'll demonstrate your tutoring skills by explaining a topic of your choice. It's not an exam - we just want to see that you can explain concepts clearly and engage with students.
